Alfredo Rodriguez
23 August 2026
Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, into a musical family - his father is a popular singer and TV host - Alfredo Rodriguez was a child prodigy who studied classical piano at the prestigious Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán and Instituto Superior de Arte, while performing popular music in his father’s orchestra by night. While playing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2006, he was discovered by his future mentor and producer, the legendary Quincy Jones. Since then, Rodriguez has achieved remarkable milestones. He has graced prestigious stages in more than 100 countries and earned a GRAMMY® nomination for his track “Guantanamera” from the album The Invasion Parade. Beyond his accomplishments, Rodriguez’s ability to “play stories” on the keys allows him to connect with listeners on a deeply personal level. His albums, including Coral Way, Tocororo, and Duologue, reflect his memories of Cuba, his experiences as an immigrant, and his journey of self-discovery through music. He’s been featured by All Things Considered, Downbeat, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and The Wall Street Journal, and performed for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert.
Rodriguez continues to share his music and message of perseverance and cross-cultural unity on his international tours. His viral performances reimagining well-known songs in a Cuban timba style have now inspired his new studio album ¡Take Cover!, released January 23, 2026, featuring Alain Pérez, Al2 El Aldeano, and Pedrito Martínez.
