Oskar Cartaya is a Latin Grammy Nominated world renowned bassist, music director, producer, composer and educator.
Considered a “Latin Jazz Institution” by his peers, and having worked with some of the worlds most notable artists including: Sheila E., Ozomatli, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Willie Colon, Spyro Gyra, Ruben Blades, Robbie Robertson, Stanley Clarke and many others, has not only established his prolific career but also contributed to his reputation as one of the industries finest and most distinguished. His credits include co-producing for one of Salsa music’s greatest icons, Hector Lavoe, on his album, “Strikes Back”. As well as, “Passion Dance” by Herb Alpert and “Plenarriqueña” for Jennifer Lopez. A live Concert On DVD. Other notable credits include a stint with the house band for TV’s, “Show Time At The Apollo” and The ESPY’s. Some Movie credits include arranging and composing for Jodie Foster’s, “Contact” and producing the soundtrack for “Wedding Bell Blues”. He has recorded on Grammy winning albums for Arturo Sandoval, Spyro Gyra and Willie Colon. Finally, he has played live on stage with the likes of Marc Anthony, Justin Timberlake, Wynona Judd and Gilberto Santa Rosa.
